Cíle předmětu
The course will examine aspects of the writing of the art critic, essayist and writer of fiction, John Berger, moving from elements of his early, documentary work on the relation of the artist, intellectual and professional to their society before moving on to his 'Cubist' novel, 'G', and his later trilogy 'Into Their Labours'. The aims of the course will be to discuss and analyse the objects and methods of Berger's approach as a writer particularly in terms of his interest in relations between nature, art, society, politics and the individual thinker or artist.

The course will be taught by a combination of close reading, group and full class discussion and culminating in the production of an essay focusing on a particular aspect of the author's writing.
