Cíle předmětu
Theatre director Sergei Tcherkasski, Head of an Acting Studio in the renowned Saint Petersburg Theatre Arts Academy, is giving a lecture at the Department of Theatre Studies on the ways in which the system of actors training developed by Russian theatre practitioner Konstantin Stanislavski in the first decade of the 20th century influenced theatres in the U.S., most notably the American Laboratory Theatre, the Group Theatre and the Actors Studio. On the larger scale, the series of lectures will shed light on the mutual relations between Russia and the U.S. at the beginning of the 20th century.
Professor Sergei Tcherkasski concerns with Russian theatre directors, Konstantin Stanislavski in particular, having published widely on the subject; cf. e.g. his recent book Stanislavski and Yoga (Russian edition 2013, Japanese edition 2015, English edition 2016) discussing the crucial impact of Yoga on Stanislavski’s actor training methods. His international directing credits include Great Catherine by Shaw at RADA (London), The Inspector General by Gogol at the National Theatre of Romania (Bucharest) and Flight by Bulgakov at NIDA (Sydney).
