- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students will acquire practical skills in academic writing. Students will cope with writing, editing and critical evaluating of the scientific essays. An important part of the course will be also an approach to the special publications and information sources. We encourage the students to keep the following procedure.
- Syllabus
- 1.Organization of the semester - entering all key texts. 2. The structure of the essay - may less be sometimes more? 3. Debate - Higgins: Intermedia 4. Polemic - definition, history - exercises in argumentation (thesis / antithesis etc.) 5. About methods (Descartes and his younger colleagues) 6. Debate - McLuhan: Gutenberg galaxy 7. Critical thinking - skepticism - irony 8. The quotations. Citation ethics - plagiarism - originality of thought 9. Debate - Heidegger: A Question Techniques 10. Citation standards - technical aspects 11. Various - A discussion about emerging essays 12. Debate - Baudrillard: Simulacra and Simulation (Chapter I. The Precession of Simulacra, p. 3-11)

- Teaching methods
- Collective theoretical preparation: formal rules of academic writing (bibliographical norm, structure, correct argumentation and rationalization). Literature and other sources collection, structure of the essay. Students' presentations. Discussing key texts.
- Assessment methods
- The successful completion of the seminar requires sufficient attendance, submission of the essay until 30.6. and submission of a minimum of 3 summaries of compulsory texts always until the specific date of the proseminar: 1. Dick Higgins: Synesthesia and Intersenses: Intermedia. 2. Marshall McLuhan: the Gutenberg galaxy. 3. Martin Heidegger: The question of technology. 4. Jean Baudrillard: Simulacra and Simulation (pp. 3-11)
