Cíle předmětu
The early growth and success of Hollywood as the film capital of the world, as well as the evolution of film making as an art form, owes much to a coterie of European-born cinema auteurs whose careers unfolded in their native countries and who subsequently took their talents to the USA where they were instrumental in shaping the profile and pre-eminence of the American silver screen. Many of the works created by these artists remain classics today. This coterie includes, among others, William Wyler ("Ben-Hur", "The Best Years of Our Lives"), Michael Curtiz ("Casablanca"), Charlie Chaplin ("City Lights"), Fritz Lang ("Metropolis"), Alfred Hitchcock ("Vertigo", "Psycho"), Ernst Lubitsch ("Ninotchka", "The Shop Around the Corner") and Billy Wilder ("Sunset Boulevard", "Some Like it Hot"). This course will take a look at the backgrounds, films and contributions of these men whose work informed the technology and creativity of the American film and continues to influence contemporary directors and audience tastes.
