- Course objectives
- The subject is above all practical. Students will be acquainted with the work of the psychologist and the variety of patients treated in somatic bed and ambulatory facilities, with psychological counselling, with possibilities of wider cooperation with the medical staff and family members of the patient. They will gain insight into psychological care in various types of somatic diseases, including special issues of care for patients with incurable diseases, seniors, transplanted patients, patients in terminal stages of illness, etc. Students will also become acquainted with advanced therapy of psychic disorders based on evidence based medicine. Last but not least, the students will be acquainted with current issues of interdisciplinary interaction and communication with the patient's family, including ethical and legal issues.

- Teaching methods
- Classes are not formally divided into lectures and seminars. Classes are more like seminars with interactive focus and useful case studies from clinical practice. The aim is to involve students in lectures and to jointly solve problematic issues. Classes take place once a week, the length of the class is 90 minutes including the time for discussion.
- Assessment methods
- Essay, extend of 3 standardized pages (ie. 5400 characters including spaces), printed essay should students bring with them to the last seminar. Students are obligated one week before the last seminar to submit the work in electronic form to the IS.
