- Course objectives
- Aims and Objectives:
The close connection between Milan Kundera´s early, socialist-realistic work from the 1950s and his later, mature novel is a highly interesting feature of his writing. The course will analyse the principal novels by Milan Kundera from the 1970s and 1980s with reference to his early work as well as his later work, written in French.
The aims and objectives of the course will be to:
- identify the main characteristic features of Kundera´s writing; - comprehend the work by Milan Kundera in the context of Czech literature in the 1950s und 1960s.;
- interpretate the work by Kundera in the European literary context, especially the French one;
- realise the difference bettween the work written in Czech and written in French. - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- This is a short series of seminars/lectures on the work of writer Milan Kundera. Class discussion, reading of the Kunderas works, seminar paper.
- Assessment methods
- The students will write an essay, analysing one or more works by Milan Kundera. The length of the essay is 2000 words. The essay topic will be approved by the lecturer. Please, email the essay to culik@blisty.cz, J.Culik@glasgow.ac.uk, the deadline is 30th June 2019.

The course is taught only once.
General note: Výuka probíhá blokově 4x4 hodiny v měsíci dubnu 2019. Předpokládá se, že studenti budou mít předem přečtené texty. V seminární práci jde o vlastní, samostatný, sémantický rozbor každého díla.
