- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to teach students to express themselves accurately and correctly in Russian language about basic specifically Czech cultural, historical, geographical and political life and institutions focused on a translation and potential guide activity, or rather preparation of information and promotional materials of regional and also superregional character. Students will learn the principles of practical transcription and transliteration of Czech proper names in written foreign text through translations of factual texts from different areas (advertising, journalistic texts, fiction...); they will be introduced to rules of the grammatical adaptation of Czech proper names in Russian language system.
- Syllabus
- - Problems of translation of non-equivalent vocabulary.
- - Historical and political circumstances of adoption of the Cyrillic in Russia, the latin script in Russian territory.
- - Classification of proper names; types of texts (legal documents, fiction, journalistic texts, advertising); proper names functions and the principals of their transfer into the new language.
- - Different systems and methods of proper names transfer: transcription, transliteration, direct graphic transfer, calque, deonymisation, transposition.
- - Principals of transfer of anthroponyms; the problem of declension of anthroponyms; gender inflection; anthroponyms in other proper names.
- - Principals of transfer of toponyms.
- - Principals of transfer of chrematonyms (names of institutions and organisations, names of products of material and spiritual culture)
