Course objectives
This course is intended for PhD students who have already made some advance in their dissertation research, ideally from the 4th semester. The objectives of this course include:
1. defining and discussing the subject of methodology in Anglophone literary and cultural studies
2. idenitifying different kinds of methodologies in literary and cultural studies research, and navigating in the process of selecting the best research methodologies for one's PhD project
3. presenting the chosen methodologies in relation to one's individual research projects.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to identify the main methodological principles, relate them to their doctoral research, and justify their choice of a particular research methodology/ies.
Syllabus
  • The course is organized as a series of 3-4 sessions during the semester. Each session will be designed to provide PhD candidates with a relevant background in research methodologies commonly applied in Anglophone literary and cultural studies, as well as to cater for PhD candidates' individual research projects. More detailed description of each session will be available in ELF at the beginning of each semester.

Teaching methods
group discussions of assigned materials; presentations by invited guests; final presentation by the PhD candidates;
Assessment methods
Students will be assessed based on their performance in the group discussions and their final presentations of research methodologies applied to their research projects.
80% final oral presentation of selected research methodology/ies
