Basic knowledge of ancient Greek - reading Greek alphabet at least.
Completing the course DSMB26 Introduction into Papyrology is an advantage but not obligatory.

Cíle předmětu
The course aims at giving a solid scientific method to work with papyrological texts. In particular, it focuses on the decipherment and interpretation of unpublished papyri from various collections, also with the help of modern digital tools.
Výstupy z učení
After completing the course, a student will:
- be able to describe, date and decipher documentary papyri;
- know the main bibliographical and digital tools for papyrological research;
- be able to carry out a small research autonomously and originally;
- be able to choose between supplement options;
- be able to communicate her/his opinion and stay open to the others’ points of view;
- be able to decipher cursive handwritings and supplement a fragmentary text in Ancient Greek.

Výukové metody
The course consists of lectures and seminars focusing on deciphering and datation of papyri (made available as digital images).
Metody hodnocení
Students will carry out a small research on a topic agreed on with the teacher, whose first results she/he will present at the end of the course with the whole group. After that she/he will enhance her/his work and submit it as a written essay to the teacher.

The course is taught online in MS Teams: students enrolled in the course UNTIL February 28 WILL BE ADDED to the class in MS Teams AUTOMATICALLY; those enrolled AFTER February 28 HAVE TO CONTACT THE TEACHER AND ASK TO BE ADDED.
