- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide the student with an overview of Italian history from the end of the 18th century to the present day, highlighting the distinctive features of Italian history, patterns and models of Italian statehood (Ancient Rome, European powers, fascism), the problems of Italian historiography (the strong position of the so-called "Italian state"), the importance of Italian historiography in the history of the world. The strength of the left-wing, Marxist historiography), the cultural development (painting, sculpture, architecture, music, dramatic forms). Among the artistic movements discussed will be Neoclassicism, Futurism, postwar avant-garde, etc.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will understand the basic developments in Italian history from the late 18th century to the present day, and will become aware of the distinctive features of Italian history, patterns and models of Italian statehood (ancient Rome, European powers, fascism), the problems of Italian historiography, and will be able to confront historical developments with cultural developments (painting, sculpture, architecture, music, dramatic forms).

Building a united state - From the Risorgimento to the "Belle Époque". Art of the second half of the Novecento (Macchiaioli, iron architecture) 5. Italianity and Futurism 6. The First World War 7. Fascist period, Novecento 8. World War II 9. The founding of the Republic and the Fascist legacy. The Italian post-war avant-garde 10. From the sixties to the terrorism of the seventies 11. The disintegration of traditional political parties in the 1990s 12. The problems of contemporary Italy
