The course is taken after the 4th semester after completion of Text Preparation 1.

Course objectives
The aim is to acquire the ability to present the results of the student’s own scientific work (i.e. at least one completed chapter of the dissertation) to a committee composed of a supervisor and at least two members of the Programme Board and to acquire the ability to cultivate discussion on specialist topics presented by colleagues in the field.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to present the results of their own research, lead a cultivated discussion on the outcomes, and discuss specialist topics presented by other researchers.
Syllabus
  • The course is designed as a collective meeting of active doctoral students and at least three members of the Programme Board in the format of ‘pre-defence’ of the dissertation and is associated with the presentation of the student’s own research topic (i.e. at least one completed chapter of the dissertation) and the public debate related to the text of it.

Teaching methods
Seminars connected to the presentation of at least one completed chapter of the dissertation and the specialist discussion relating to it.
Assessment methods
The evaluation will be based on the student’s presentation of his/her specialist text (at least one dissertation chapter) and active participation in the debate on the current results of the doctoral student’s research. Successful completion of the course is a key factor in appraising the student’s ability to continue on the doctoral study programme.
