Cíle předmětu
In this course I plan to review the Russian society in the XXth century. Not the politics of the state, but the reactions of society to these politics. And the inner life of society in the fields of education, self-government, religion, culture, local economics.
Osnova
  • 1. The Russian society in the beginning of the XXth century before the 1905. According to the General census of 1897 and local statistics.
  • 2. The First Revolution, Agrarian reforms, Religion, culture and morals in 1906-1917.
  • 3. Political inclinations in society – analysis the results of Duma elections 1906-1912.
  • 4. The Revolution of 1917 in the elections to the Constituent Assembly and to the Church Council of 1917/18.
  • 5. The Civil war of 1917-1922 as a social phenomenon.
  • 6. Social reaction toward the New Economic Policy of the Bolsheviks and “Collectivisation”. Repressions and resistance.
  • 7. Faith in the Soviet Union before the Second World War (1922-1939)
  • 8. Mass terror in the Soviet Union before the Second World War – reasons, forms, figures. Complicity and resistance.
  • 9. The shift in the mass conscience in time and after the Second Word War – from “undersoviet” society to the Soviet one. The ideas of the Soviet imperialism and the “Great-Russian chauvinism” and antisemitism.
  • 10. The Soviet society from the death of Stalin till Afghanistan war.
  • 11. Dissidents and State-holders. Conflict of ideas in the Late Soviet society (1954-1989). The increasing role of culture and religion.
  • 12. The Russian society after the collapse of the USSR in December 1991. New economic reality, political attitudes (analysis of elections of 1991-96) and the Renaissance of religions. Private enterprise and economic passivity of the Russian population.
Metody hodnocení
As a result of our studying I hope to receive from my students the analytical essays on the whole course in which you try to answer the question – What specific moments resulted in the present-day state of the Russian society.
