Prerequisites
Only successful applicants for an occupational internship may enrol in the course (Erasmus+, Ceepus etc.); more information can be obtained from the course supervisor.
If the internship is pedagogically orientated, it is beforehand necessary to pass at least one course at the Department of Czech Language focused on teaching Czech as a foreign language.

Course objectives
The course includes the duty to pass an occupational internship abroad lasting at least one month in a position including duties that are in accordance with the study programme of Czech language at the Faculty of Ats, Masaryk University, e.g. at foreign schools teaching Czech, in Czech Centres etc.
In case of internship in a teaching place, the aim of the internship is to acquire an overview of specific features relating to teaching Czech abroad, in classes mixed as far as languages are concerned, in countrymen communities. Students will get acquainted with the educational system in the particular country, they will establish contacts with the perspective of future professional cooperation. Being in contact with a community using a different language, they will also further develop their language competences.
In case of internship in a non-teaching place, students will acquire experience linked with applying their professional knowledge from the sphere of Czech studies form the linguistic viewpoint in a community using a different language and with promoting Czech culture abroad.
Learning outcomes
Having participated in the stay, students will:
- gain experience relating to practical application of knowledge and skills from the field of study (as well as the application of pedagogical ones);
- enlarge the knowledge of using Czech abroad;
- deepen their language competences;
- they will be able to design a plan of specific activities of work and to produce a written reflection of the results.
Syllabus
  • 1. Preparatory stage before the departure: consultation of content of the internship with the course supervisor.
  • 2. The internship itself, lasting at least one month at a foreign school teaching Czech or at a different workplace where it is possible to use and enlarge skills and competences acquired during the university studies of the Czech language.
  • 3. Final stage: evaluation of assets of the internship after the return. Within two weeks after their return from the internship, students will submit a written report about their pedagogical, professional etc. activities (confirmed by the receiving institution) and a written commentary to be presented on the departmental website to share experience and motivation with other possible applicants.

Teaching methods
Methods depend on requirements of the receiving institution and on arrangement with the departmental internship supervisor. In case of internship in a teaching place, individual, professionally supervised preparation for teaching is expected, shadowing classes of local professionals, independent practical teaching of Czech and extracurricular activities depending on requirements of the receiving institution that will contribute to enlarging students’ knowledge of contemporary Czech language, literature and culture.
Assessment methods
The assessment is based on a written survey of pedagogical, professional etc. activities that took place (confirmed by the receiving party), submitted by students to the tutor of the course not later than two weeks after their return from the stay. The assessment is also based on an interview with students.

Information on course enrolment limitations: Předmět mohou zapisovat pouze úspěšní uchazeči o pracovní stáž (Erasmus, Ceepus aj.). Informace lze získat i u garanta předmětu. V případě pedagog. orientované stáže je nutno předem absolvovat min. 1 kurz ÚČJ zaměřený na výuku češtiny jako cizího jazyka.
