The course requires existing knowledge of localisation basics (provided in the course Software Localisation), i.e. grasp of what localisation is and what it includes, basic work with CAT tools, style guide and terminology management, awareness of MT specifics, basic knowledge of translation review (LQA).

Cíle předmětu
This course is designed as a practical one, building on the overview gained in the course Software Localisation and further anchoring the acquired skills in practical hands-on assignments and team work in lessons.
Výstupy z učení
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- navigate real localisation projects with ease;
- recognise, understand and utilise industry terminology and concepts;
- cooperate as part of a team;
- apply the basics of style guide design and maintenance;
- apply the basics of terminology mining and maintenance;
- conduct an LQA;
- undertake level-appropriate translation, transcreation, and MTPE jobs;
- work on level-appropriate specific projects (e.g. app localisation, game localisation)

  • Introduction: Course overview; review of basic localisation concepts
  • Project 1: Style guide creation, terminology management, LQA
  • Project 2: Transcreation
  • Project 3: Special project (e.g. app localisation, game localisation, subtitle origination)
  • Note: The course contents might be adjusted based on the needs/interests of the students, as well as on the research areas of the participating instructors.

Výukové metody
The course is meant to be practical. It shall include hands-on exercises, group work on projects, class discussions and peer feedback. Attendance is compulsory.
Metody hodnocení
Compulsory attendance (max. 2 unexused absences), active participation in lessons and projects, participation in discussions. Occasional homework might be assigned to further support the in-class activities. The credit (zápočet) is given based on participation and active work in lessons; no exam is taken at the end of the course.
