- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the history of architecture in the period 1850-1918 in Moravia and former Austrian Silesia. The lecture will not be conceived strictly chronologically, but typologically. In the period under review, there was a great building boom, especially in cities, and a commodification of the whole society, lifestyle and thus architecture, which had to respond to new stimuli. This leads to the formation of completely new types of buildings or to a significant modernisation of traditional types. The interpretation will therefore focus on individual typological categories. Examples from different sites and their creators will be discussed.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to identify, analyse and interpret Moravian architecture of the second half of the 19th century.
