Course objectives
To get to know the education system and the approach of another European state to current social issues and trends as a source of inspiration and stimulus for critical comparisons with situation in our own country.
Learning outcomes
Each topic will first be presented by the teacher in the way Swedish society views it, and then it will be the subject of a discussion, critical evaluation and problematization of selected questions and comparison with the situation in the Czech Republic. At the end of the course, students will be able to critically evaluate and argue about the areas discussed. Examples of questions for discussion within selected topics: What is the role of organized lifelong learning in an age of easy access to information and educational materials online? Which of the forms of lifelong learning would be beneficial for the Czech environment and would it be possible to implement them here? What role does education and its forms play at different levels in the democratization of society? Is it possible to be inspired by the Czech-Swedish comparison? What is the relationship between conscious education for active citizenship and one's own individuality? Are they mutually exclusive or mutually supportive? How are the forms of education changing or how do they need to be changed with the massive onset of digitization and the use of AI? In this context, how are the demands for competences and skills changing in the field of work and in the field of everyday life? The massive digitization of society leads to discrimination of a certain part of the population. Is this a necessary price for progress, or is a democratic society beginning to loosen its principles for greater efficiency and economic savings? At which points could the Swedish approach to selected topics be an inspiration and at which points rather a deterrent example? In which areas does Swedish society follow an individualistic approach and in which areas a collectivistic one? What are the advantages or disadvantages of both approaches?
