- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is for students to be able to: define basic concepts; describe the historical origins of the Roma, their arrival in the Czech Republic, and their status in different historical periods; classify the sub-ethnic divisions of the Roma, which determine the specific characteristics and differentiation of individual groups, as well as their distinct social status and life strategies; specify Roma religiosity and its possible manifestations in everyday life; characterize the structure and hierarchy of Roma families and the roles of individual members; analyze the process of social exclusion and the characteristics of socially excluded localities and their inhabitants; identify key barriers and causes of potential segregation of Roma children in education; infer possible tools for the integration of Roma pupils and students at all levels of education; and infer the causes of academic failure or early school dropout, along with the practical implementation of equal access to education.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to:

- Teaching methods
- Lecture, Seminar, Excursion
The course workload is set at 125 hours (5 ECTS credits):
30 hours – participation in classes
25 hours – reading academic literature, self-study of course materials, systematic preparation for seminars
10 hours – visit to an organization, study of documentation and methodological materials
40 hours – preparation and presentation of a completed project in a seminar
20 hours – viewing and analyzing audiovisual materials followed by a group discussion - Assessment methods
- The course is conducted as a combination of lectures and seminars. As part of the instruction, there is an excursion to a non-profit organization engaged in social work with socially excluded individuals (Roma). The course is concluded with a pass/fail assessment.
**Course Completion Requirements:** Students, working in pairs or groups of three, will develop independent projects on the topic of social work with children or adults, which they will present during seminars throughout the semester. Successful completion of the course requires at least 70% attendance in lectures and seminars. - Language of instruction
