- Course objectives
- Students will be working with theoretical terms on the basis of excerpts from dictionaries of literary theory and main theoretical texts. Several model ways of interpretation will be shown: based on studying verse semantics, the categories of time, space and subject and on different modes of narrating.

- Syllabus: 1. Definition of interpretation; the history of interpretation. 2. Presentation of some basic works dealing with interpreatation - Plato: Ion (Czech translation 1941), Augustinus Aurelius: Confessiones (Vyznání,1926, 1992), Hans-Georg Gadamer: Wahrheit und Methode (Tübingen 1990), Eco - Rorty - Culler - Brooke-Rose: Interpretation and Overinterpretation (Cambridge 1992, Slovak translation Bratislava 1995), Günter Figal: Hermeneutická svoboda (Prague 1994) and other texts.
