Course objectives
Systhematic survey of Romanesque and Early Gothic painting and sculpture from the end of the Late Antiquity to the middle of the 13th century with special regard to the development in BOhemia and Moravia. The attention concentrates on formal developmnet, function of works of art, iconography as related to the period philosophy, theology and devotion.

  • 5. Carolingian period as the end of the Antiquity
  • 6. Romanesque architecture
  • 7. Romanesque figural arts, so-called Transitional style
  • 8. Romanesque art in Bohemia and Moravia
  • 9. Beginnings of the Gothic art and architecture
  • 10. French Gothic Cathedral
  • 11. Clasical Gothic sculpture up to 1200
