Course objectives
The course "Middle-European and Russian Formalism" introduces to Aesthetic Formalism, its basic types, and presents its chief representants in the course of XIX century, i.e. Robert Zimmermann and Eduard Hanslick (the both lived in Prague, then moved to Vienna and lectured at University of Vienna), and their Czech followers, Josef Durdík and Otakar Hostinský (both professors of Charles University). The Czech branch grew longer and prepared reception of Russian Formalism in twenties.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Kurs "Formalismus středoevropský a ruský" bude věnován rozboru základních variant tzv. estetického formalismu, a to na dílech německých Pražanů a později vídeňských profesorů Roberta Zimmermanna a Eduarda Hanslicka, jakož i na dílech Josefa Durdíka a Otakara Hostinského. Česká odnož tohoto myšlenkového proudu byla významná zvláště tím, že žila déle než vídeňská a připravila půdu pro recepci ruského formalismu, k níž došlo ve 20. letech.
