- Course objectives
- The course deals with portrayal of the Holocaust in the Czech literature and subsequently in the World Literature as well. The participants will observe how the authors deal with the theme of Holocaust in their works (search for language expression, documentary traits, motives, characters and their traumata, witnesses, aesthetics). Comprehensive interpretation of chosen literary works by Ladislav Fuks, Arnošt Lustig, Ota Pavel and Ludvík Aškenazy will be the fundamentals of the seminar. All the works will be examined within a wider historical, social and cultural context, emphasis will be put on comparison with the World Literature (e.g. Elie Wiesel, Primo Levi etc.).

- Seminars will focus on these literary and film works: Pan Theodor Mundstock (Fuks), Spalovač Mrtvol (Fuks), Smrt krásných srnců (Pavel), Démanty noci (Lustig), Modlitba pro Kateřinu Horovitzovou (Lustig).
