- Course objectives
- This course will cover methods and theories for teaching English to very young learners in mixed ability classes. All aspects of foreign language learning (listening, speaking, writing and reading) will be included as well as activities for drama and storytelling. Students will learn through classroom activities, discussions, observations, a variety of resources and an on-line forum. The course will be team taught by two instructors: one is a specialist in methodology and one is a specialist in special pedagogy.
- Syllabus
- The class meets weekly for the entire 14-week semester. There is one observation required at an English language kindergarten. Students will use Moodlinka to access resources and participate in a weekly forum. The weekly topics are: 1. Introduction 2. Young language learners 3. Speaking - controlled activities 4. Listening activities 5. Communicative activities 6. Teaching reading 7. Teaching writing 8. Grammar for young learners 9. Vocabulary presentation and practice 10. Drama with children 11. Using literature. Storytelling 12. Microteaching 13. Microteaching 14. Evaluation and Wrap up
