Course objectives
The seminar will be focused on Czech fairy tale (traditional and artificial), mainly in the period of the1960s and in following years. It will freely follow the seminar Metamorphosis of a Fairy Tale. We are going to think about the possibilities of the genre, various ways and types of contemporary fairy tales. We want to draw on texts by famous and also less known authors.

  • – Literary-theoretic basis – Folk fairy tale and its adaptation – Artificial fairy tale – Nonsense fairy tale – Poetic fairy tale – Between a fairy tale and a narrative from the life of children – Folklore resonance in an artificial fairy tale – The language of artificial fairy tales – Fairy tale and its addressee – Authorial book, text, illustration – Development of the genre in the examined period

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Seminář. K zápočtu požaduji samostatný rozbor jednoho konkrétního textu, četbu a účast v následné diskusi, alespoň padesátiprocentní docházku. An individual analysis of a specific text, reading and active participation in following discussions, minimally 50% attendance.
