- Course objectives
- The subject of codicology handles manuscripts and manuscript libraries. It deals with the origins of manuscripts, their types and users, with the principles of their description, the development of manuscript libraries and the most important manuscript collections in Europe, Bohemia and Moravia as well as with the medieval book-lists. It also introduces into the working with the concordance. Epigraphy brings basic information about ancient and medieval inscriptions. It introduces different types of inscriptions, examines writing and language in which they were composed, the most important epigraphical monuments in our lands and informs about the principles of their descriptions with the use of prosopography.
