- Course objectives
- During the course students are taught how to pronounce correctly (they read given texts loudly) and they practice the interpretation of the Czech text. The aim of the seminar is to improve students’ pronunciation in Czech language.
- Syllabus
- The following topics will be covered during the course: 1/ stress and rhythm 2/ vocals (vocalic quantity) 3/ diphthong ou (diphthong in words taken from foreign languages) 4/ quantity that can change the meaning 5/ vowels in foreign words 6/ consonant system 7/ pronunciation of difficult consonants : ď, ť, ň; j; s-z, ž-š, c-č; r-l (syllabic r, l); h-ch 8/ consonant ř 9/ voiced consonants 10/ modulation of continual speech (stress, words without stress, stress in a sentence, modulation of tones, stress in complementary questions) Students will begin with reading particular words and then they will interpret more difficult texts.
