Course objectives
In the course we shall focus on advanced questions of social work theory. Social work as a profession. The aim of social work. Social work activities. Resources and characteristics of social work. The surveys of aplication of the social work theory in practice. Theories analysis.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction Has the social work its history? Social work and industrial revolution. What is social work? Social work as science and art. Social work as a profession. The aim of social work. Social work activities. Resources and characteristics of social work. Some historical dilemmas of social work. Social work and related branches. 2. Modern Social Work and Theories Three concepts of social work. Czech social work. Characteristics of social work theories. The function of theory in the social work. Kinds of theories in the social work. The surveys of aplication of the social work theory in practice. Theories analysis. 3. Psychodynamic Perspectives Psychoanalysis, The theory of personality. The development of personality. Defence mechanisms. Therapy. The function of psychoanalysis. 4. Humanistic and Existential Perspectives I Existentialist and humanistic concepts of social work in context. The bases of humanistic and existential theory of social work. the clientward oriented approach. Transactional analysis. Thompson: existentialism and social work. 5. Humanistic and Existential Perspectives II: V.E.Frankl Existential analysis. Freedeom and responsibility. The question of the meaning of life. The meaning of life. Values. Noogenic dynamics. The fate. The time. The hardship and death. The refusal of the reductionism. Dimensional ontology. What is a logotherapy? The neccessity of a logotherapy - existencial vacuum. Logotherapy as an art. Logotherapy-religion relationship. The relationship with the client. Specific techniques in logotherapy. 6. Socio-psychilogical and communicative models The theory of roles. Labelling theory.
