- Course objectives
- Main objectives of the course can be summarized as follows:
- to get an overwiew of the Latin literary production in Europe from the late antiquity (with special regard to patristics) to 11th century
- to remember some specific features of medieval literature
- to become familiar with following genres: hagiography, historiography, secular and sacred lyrics - Syllabus
- 1) The most important genres of Medieval Latin literature and their development
- 2) Specific features of medieval literature
- 3) Preconditions of literary development in the late Roman period
- 4) Overview of Latin patristics
- 5) So called interim period in different parts of Europe
- 6) 9th-10th century - Carolingian and Ottonian Renaissance
- 7) 11th century - the beginnings of flowering of medieval Latin literature

General note: Předmět je povinný pro studenty latinské medievistiky, pro studenty klasické filologie volitelný.
Information on course enrolment limitations: Předmět je určen studentům magisterského cyklu, ve výjimečných případadech jej lze po dohodě s vyučujícím zapsat semestr před složením státní bakalářské zkoušky.
