Course objectives
The aim of these three lectures is to assess the impact of knowledge technologies on the formation of social consciousness. From print to web, the changes in the horizons of human imagination, the ability to know and belong, are directly dependent on volatile regimes of trust in the production and dissemination of information. Upon completion, the student will be able to understand the complex interdependence between people’s identities and information identity in both the historical and new-age, digital contexts.
Syllabus
  • The direct relation between individual identity and knowledge is our working premise. Topics covered: 1. The impact of print on the transformation of traditional medieval society into the mediated communities of the Modern Age. 2. The historical dependence of the identity of information on established regimes of trust and textual veracity. 3. Digital age and dislocated learning, hybrid identity and virtual places.
