- Course objectives
- The course introduces the students to the work and thought of Mirca Eliade (1907-1986). The primary goal of the course is a critical analysis of his conceptions of religion and its scientific inquiry, in the context of contemporary study of religion. The course focuses on Eliade’s phenomenologicaly-hermeneutical thoughts, nevertheless for the purpose of a critical analysis of these thoughts the work of his critics and followers and its attitude towards his system has to be brought into investigation. The introduced lectures present specific problems on this topic, at the same time they provide the students with a detailed view of history, theory, and methods of study of religion.
