Course objectives
Cursus shows some new results about Czech Nationalism of 19-th century- mainly the book of Vladimír Macura Znamení zrodu/ The sign of genesis/ and the influence of this book in contemporary Czech culture. Both opera of Smetana are analyse concerning new analytical methods.Upon completion of this course, the student will be acquainted with the political aspects of cultural life in Czech Lands in 19 th century, will have a general knowledge of concept of Czech Natonalism,will have an understanding of the contexts of Smetana´s operas.

  • concept of Czech Nationalism by Macura and Urban, concept of Czech Decadence by Pynsent, concept of asynchronous modernisation in middle European Modern by Střítecký; Smetanas operas, period reception and its reflexion in Musicology and Cultural Studies (Hostinský, Nejedlý).
