Course objectives
In the course, the literary situation in Finland and Estonia in the last 30 years is examined. Some points of contacts and similarities are stressed as well as different kinds of influences from older literatary tradition. At the end of the course students should be able to repeat basic development of Finnish and Estonian literature in the 20th century, recognize and demonstrate the politicly and socialy determined differences, and analyse the basic topoi, motiffs, trends, genres and forms.
Syllabus
  • The 70s and 80s in literature of Finland and Estonia. Literature of post-Soviet Estonia and post-crisis Finland. The main topics - war and history in general, nation and national tradition, women and man, literature and text, nature, city and village, periphery and centre.
