- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to present the Central-European specific features as a stage leading towards European integration.
From the diachronous point of view there are various conceptions of Central Europe,and the territories of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia are demonstrated as a point of intersection of many cultural impacts in the past which can become a starting point of new integrational activities.
The methodological starting point is the project of area studies, integrated genre typology and the Brno conception of literary comparative and genre studies.
At the end of the course, the student will have the idea of the unsubstitutable role of Central Europe as a source of the complex knowledge of European area
and as an important factor of Euroregions
, will be able to interpret important turning points in the history of Central Europe,
will know its significant cultural phenomena and personalities
and have the idea of the role of Central Europe in the EU. - Syllabus
- Introduction to the Central-European area: information about the basic features of the subject, understanding the complexity of Central-European area
- History of Central-European area, the role of the Danube monarchy, ideologization of Central Europe
- Culture and literature and the area of Central Europe: literature as a reflection of the formation of the area (Slavonic, German and Hungarian space)

- Teaching methods
- The lecture is based on the outline and interpretation of the notion Central Europe and its significance in literature and culture applying illustrative examples and comparative analysis in the framework of world culture. The seminar is focused on the presentation of the students‘ own research and discussion.

- The course has a form of a lecture with a seminar, oral exam.
