Course objectives
Znojmo as a historic and medieval city, offers to art-historian medievalist a great number of topics on which the capacity and strength of established and cherished opinions, theories, methods can be verified. The seminar will focus on the role of this city in the "Great Moravian Empire," on the importance of appanage principalities and on the representation of the Moravian branch of Premyslid dynasty, on the beginnings of the Gothic city and its layout and equipment, on the importance of a functioning medieval ecclesiastical institutions inside and around the city, on the transformation of structures of the city and ultimately on the protection and care given to the medieval heritage today.
