- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should understand key notions of propositional and predicate logic; translate statements from ordinary language into the language of propositional and predicate logic; use the logical sqare to transform statements and Venn diagrams and truth-table method to assess the validity of arguments.
- Syllabus
- 1. The concepts of argument, entailment, logic;
- 2. The elementary semiotic concepts used in logic;
- 3. The syntax of propositional logic, the semantics of propositional logic - the truth table method;
- 4. Tautology and contradiciton;
- 7. Translation of natural language sentences into predicate logic;
- 8. Logical square;
- 9. Categorical syllogism, Venn diagrams.
