- Course objectives
- This course introduces in the basic procedures of historical research and critical comparison. Students gradually proceed from a basic bibliographic search through a research project proposal to an article. They get feedback to all assignments.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- perform and gradually deepen a bibliographic search using different resources and tools (efficient search on the internet, in library catalogues and databases of electronic resources; using footnotes of relevant contributions; searching for reviews; etc.);
- distinguish sources from secondary literature;
- understand the problem of genesis and tradition of a text (on a basic level);
- use some basic concepts of textual criticism;
- use the basics of source criticism in the interpretation of textual sources;
- design and conduct a systematic critical comparison of two textual sources or their passages.

- Lectures, practical training, submissions (bibliographic search, filled form on a chosen source text, research project proposal, essay).
- Assessment methods
- Bibliographic search (10 %), excercise to textual and source criticism (15 %), research project proposal (25 %), article (50 %). For colloquium, the final assignment is the research project proposal (the article is not required).
