Cíle předmětu
The course will focus primarily on Anthony Powell's sequence of twelve(relatively short!)novels entitled 'A Dance To The Music of Time' considering in particular its approach to twentieth century British history and society, with the aim of focusing on the ways in which Powell, as a complexly comic novelist, provides an alternative historical perspective to cultural and social developments in twentieth century Britain from that provided by the academic historian.

Teaching will proceed via a combination of smaller and whole group discussions and focused analysis of specific extracts of the texts concerned. Prospective participants should note that the books used on the course are available via e-prezencka.
Metody hodnocení
Assessment will be in the form of class participation (40%) and a 6-8 page essay (60%)The essay has the status of an exam and should be registered for. Essays should be submitted in hard copy form.
