Course objectives
The Manuscripts of DvůrKrálové and of Zelená Hora constitute a remarkable phenomenon in the culture of Czech National Revival. Their existence and the debate over their authenticitydeeply affected Czech culture and society. This lecture series discusses their impact from the beginning up to the present. In addition to surveying the scholarly disputes of the period, the course focuses on the effect the Manuscripts have had on Czech literature, music, fine arts, and drama, laying an emphasis on the context of European literary hoaxes (e.g. Ossian).
