Předpokládá se znalost srbštiny na takové úrovni, aby byl posluchač schopen číst originální beletristické i odborné texty a rozuměl jim, znalost základů literární teorie a schopnost analyzovat literární dílo.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present the development of the Serbian literature in the first half of 20th century and during the World War II and its milestones of after-war period. The course is focused on modernist literature, avantgarde literature, social and socialistic literature. Special attention is paid to two most important writers of the period: Miloš Crnjanski and Ivo Andrić. Lecture examines Serbian literature in European and south-slavic context. The seminar is based on reading, analysing and discussing the relevant texts.
Syllabus
  • 1) Modernism - explanation of the terms, description of the main world's modernist tendencies, serbish modernism in the European context; roots of the modern Serbian literary criticism and history (B. Popović, J. Skerlić, B. Lazarević); Srpski književni glasnik and other magazines
  • 2) Parnassism and symbolism: serbian symbolist poetry (A. Šantić, J. Dučić, M. Rakić, S. Pandurović, V. Petković Dis etc.)
  • 3) Lyrical realists (B. Stanković, S. Ćorović, I. Ćipiko, P. Kočić)
  • 4) Post realists: writers on the border between traditional and "new" realism (I. Sekulić, V. Petrović etc.)
  • 5) Avantgarde - explanation of the terms, introducing main world's avantgarde tendencies and the domestic ones (sumatraism, zenitism); serbian avantgarde in the european context; expresionism (S. Vinaver, R. Petrović)

  • 7) Surrealism and other avantgarde tendencies, experimental and visual poetry, magazine Zenit

Teaching methods
Lectures, home reading, class discussion, short report, essay.
Assessment methods
Final exam is in a form of written test. Student will be allowed to write the test if he meets these prerequisities: regular attendacne (maximum 3 absences during a semester), home preparation, active participation on the seminar (discussion), essay, short oral report about particular topic. Final grade is based on the quality of meeting these prerequisities.
