- Course objectives
- Course is intended for students who are interested in learning the theory and practice aspects of creating the scholarly journal (work editors, reviewers, authors, language proofreaders etc.) and want to master the main principles of academic writing and critical evaluation. During the course students get acquainted with strategies and tactics of scientific publishing and formal rules and ethical principles of academic writing. In addition, they get an overview of scholarly journals, databases of scholarly journals, evaluation criteria of scholarly journals, etc. Main content of the lectures is to prepare a new issue of the departmental magazine JOIME. Thus, students have the opportunity to become familiar with all phases of the publishing proces. They write academic texts, evaluate each other's texts, handling promotion of journal, participate in the creation of design magazine and perform other activities associated with the development of the scholarly journal, according to their individual abilities. In this way, they gain practical and theoretical experiences in professional publishing activities and editorial team work. After completing the course, students will be prepared for scholarly publishing activities and qualified work in editorial team.
- Syllabus
- 1. Scholarly journals: Requirements and objectives of a scholarly journals, examples of foreign and domestic academic journals, evaluation criteria of scholarly jurnals, databases of scholarly journals. Introduction to the topic of the new issue of JOINME and selection of topics for articles. 2. Academic writing style, genres of academic texts, structure of academic texts. 3. Choosing the topic, work with resources, information retrieval, strategies of academic writing. Writing the first version of the article. 4. Bibliographic citation, the list of used literature, citation style. Writing the second version of the article. 5. Publication ethics, peer review, evaluation criteria for scholarly articles. Evaluation and selection of articles for publication. 6. Work with content management system, public relations, evaluation visits. 7. Evaluation of the course, feedback.

- Teaching methods
- Teaching takes the form of workshops where students learn the process of publishing scholarly periodicals online.
In the practical part of teaching and the self-study students gradually working on their articles from concept to proof. - Assessment methods
