Course objectives
In this course, students acquire information and skills necessary to submit a successful grant application. At the end of the course, students will be able to write up a grant proposal. The proposal should meet the criteria for a proposal submitted to the Czech Science Foundation (Grantová agentura České republiky, GAČR) or Grant Agency of Masaryk University (Grantová agentura Masarykovy univerzity, GAMU). The students will also be able to submit the project in English and as members of a research team.
Syllabus
  • Grant proposals; grant policy and strategy.
  • How to write a grant proposal.
  • Writing up a grant proposal; discussion, networking.
  • Simulated evaluation of the grant application (peer review, understanding and applying the evaluation criteria).
  • Examples of succesful grant applications from the Department for the Study of Religions at Masaryk University, or other institutions or individuals.

Teaching methods
Lectures; individual work on the grant application; moderated discussion; analysis of selected examples of successful and unsuccessful grant applications.
Assessment methods
Presentation of a grant application project (individual or written with a team); evaluation of the quality of the project by the lecturer and other participants in the course; identification of the strengths and weaknesses in the submitted projects.
