- Course objectives
- Complex practice of Czech grammar, focus is put on reviewing Czech declension system and Czech conjugation. Students are supposed to make summaries of the given texts and do the exercises to the text. They will be taught how to use Czech and Latin linguistic terminology. The aim of the course is to prepare students for qualifying exam in the end of autumn semester that will show their knowledge and skills according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (level B2) and mastering specialistic linguistic terminology.
- Syllabus
- 1/ Focus is put on verb (classification of verbs – aspect – phrases with participles – reflexive passive) 2/ Declension of substantives – all genders and declension types, declension of words taken from foreign languages) 3/ Declension of adjectives: a/ hard adjectives – soft adjectives –possessive adjectives, b/ comparison of adjectives 4/ accidence of pronouns and numerals 5/ Verbal constructions (with prepositions and without prepositions), the most frequent verbs (perfective and imperfective) 6/ Principal problems in Czech syntax, word-order (constructions, enclitics), coordination and determination (+ conjunctions), simple sentence, direct and indirect speech 7/ Orientation in linguistic terminology 8/ Grammar exercises base on texts. Students will be taught how to write a summary of the text.

- Teaching methods
- Teacher-led instruction (theoretical preparation), homework, supplementary exercises (oral and written), summarization based on a text, corrections of mistakes
- Assessment methods
- Final written test. Besides the test, the following rules must be observed: 1/ In order to successfully finish the course, student's participation in the course must be at least 75 %. If student's participation drops below 75 %, he will not be allowed to write the final test. 2/ The students fullfils all tasks given by the teacher (homeworks, presentations etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence. 3/ Students must not switch study groups, unless the Head of Department of Czech for Foreigners explicitly approved it.
