- Course objectives
- •To introduce major tendencies in representation of emotions in visual arts of the last 100 years and thus to present an alternative history of 20th and 21st century art. Using case studies of individual artists and works to analyze manifold ways in which emotions have been represented in works of art, as well as the role of emotional response in the intrpretation.
- Syllabus
- 1. Emotions and affective response to works of art - current perspectives. 2. Interest in emotions and psychology at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. 3. Pathos formlen in early 20th century art. 4. Representation of emotions in art avantgarde of classic modernism. 5. The retreat of affect in postwar art. 6. Empathy and art 7. case studies of representation of affect and affective response in selected works of painting, sculpture, videoart, instalaltion and bdoy art of 1960-2015.
