Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to introduce the students to Chinese language and culture and acquire basic knowledge of this language.
At the end of the course ,students should be able to:
-Have a daily conversation with native Chinese speaker.
-Have a good pronunciation of Chinese letters.
-Knowledge of grammar and the ability to write simple sentences.
-Read simple text, written in Chinese language.
-Understanding when other people are talking in Chinese language.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - use spoken and written version of new vocabulary - use new grammatical phenomena - answer to basic questions and create basic sentences - react properly in basic dialogue on textbook topics
Syllabus
  • The modern Chinese is taught according the Integrated Chinese 1.1 textbook, following the order of the textbook's lessons.
  • Lesson 1: Greetings
  • Lesson 2: Family
  • Lesson 3: Dates and time
  • Lesson 4: Hobbies
  • Lesson 5: Visiting Friends
  • Lesson 6: Making Appointments
  • Lesson 7: Studying Chinese
  • Lesson 8: School Life
  • Lesson 9: Shopping
  • Lesson 10: Transportation
  • Grading plan:
  • 1. Attendance: 20%
  • 2. Weekly test: 50%
  • 3. Weekly assignment: 30%
  • Every week the students will have assignment and test (10 min). They have the right to participate in the Final exam only if they have total score (attendance+ test+ assignment) above 70%. On the 4th time absence students will lose points(10%) on the final score. After the 5th time absence they don’t have the right to participate on the Final exam. Every student should hand in assignments every Monday otherwise they will lose points (6%) every time and if there are more than two times that the students hadn’t hand in the assignments then they will be disqualified from the Final exams.

Teaching methods
The course is taught by a native speaker who combines various and easy methods.
Assessment methods
Final written test.
Besides the test, the following rules must be observed:

1) 4 unexcused absences allowed in one semester. In case of 5 or more absences the student doesn't have the right to participate in the Final exam.
2) The students fullfils all tasks given by the teacher (homeworks, presentations etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence.
3) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved it.
