Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
identify and describe the elements of generic structure in a text;
relate them to other types of discourse patterns;
identify the linguistic and pragmatic features characteristic of these elements;
identify aspects of context, in particular the purpose of the genre and relate them to the surface features;
identify and describe aspects of the context characteristic of the genre
