- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
reproduce nominal and verbal paradigms studied within the course (see syllabus of the course);
explain grammatical rules studied within the course;
use basic Latin grammatical terminology associated with the grammar studied within the course;
recognize grammatical categories of the morphological forms studied within the course;
translate simple Latin sentences into Czech;
describe grammatical structure of a clause. - Syllabus
- Introduction to Latin language, alphabet, pronuntiation and accent. Latin grammatical categories in comparison with Czech. Introduction to declension and conjugation.
- 1st declension nouns, basic prepositions.
- 1st conjugation (present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive); translation of passive forms, expression of agent.
- 2nd declension nouns, 1st and 2nd declension adjectives.
- Verb esse and its compounds. Adverbs of 1st and 2nd declension adjectives.
- 2nd conjugation (present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive).
- 3rd declension nouns.
- 3rd and 4th conjugation - present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive.
- Deponent verbs.
- 3rd declension adjectives, present participle and its use.
- Adverbs of 3rd declension adjectives, personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative prononus, possessive genitive and dative.

- Lectures, practice (translation, grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and homework are required.
- Assessment methods
- Class attendance is obligatory, every student can miss two lectures during the semester without leave.
Requirements for successful completion of the course: passing the final written test (passing score: 70%).
The success rate of the final test can be lowered by 10% by filling in questionnaires available in the IS (minimum passing score: 70%) before the end of the semester. - Language of instruction
