- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the Hebrew alphabet and its origin, especially on the cultural-historical background of the ancient Middle East. During the lessons, the students will get acquainted with dictionaries of Biblical Hebrew, scientific textbooks, overviews of Hebrew grammar and electronic aids. Simple vocabulary and morphological and syntactic structures will be emphasized. Another goal is to translate short literary texts with the help of a dictionary. Another goal is to get acquainted with the different types of Hebrew Bibles and dictionaries that will enable students to acquire a basic orientation in the biblical text.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing this course, the student will be able: • recognize the letters of the Hebrew alphabet in both basic and final form • vocalization marks • accents • a particular member • pronunciation of sounds • numerus • genus • status constructus and status absolutus • presentation of 7 verb classes • conjunctions • recognize the word root and derive other words from it

- Teaching methods
- During the lessons, students will have the opportunity to practise the Hebrew alphabet. Another important part of our sessions will be acquisition of of elementary word stock. The students will be able to derive the root and identify it. There will be frequent discussions and group work with translations.

- Text preparation for lessons (short translations, reading of materials before the lesson etc.), 60% attendance)
