- Course objectives
- The course will introduce the basic concepts and theories of youth subculture in the context of psychology, pedagogy and sociology. Relevant subcultures of youth, their characteristics, relation to musical genres, related negative social phenomena, etc. will be discussed. Important researches of this field in the view of pedagogy and psychology will be presented as well. The course will also focus on pedagogical topics related to youth subculture (leisure time, preventive activities, out-of-school education, etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- The student, after completing the course, will be able to discuss basic knowledge of psychology and pedagogy in the context of youth subcultures, will be able to present the particular subcultures, their values and norms. He will also be able to discuss educational issues and the possibilities of intervention.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introductory informative meeting, introduction of basic topics
- 2. Basic concepts (culture, subculture, youth subcultures, leisure, adolescence, youth)
- 3. Typology of youth subculture; psychological and pedagogical dimension of subcultures
- 4. Theories and Approaches to Research on Youth Subcultures (Methods of Research, Ethnographic Research, Qualitative Research, Questionnaire Survey, Research Ethics)
- 5. Hippies (values, standards, history, breakdowns)
- 6. Skinheads (values, standards, history, breakdowns)
- 7. Punk and hardcore (values, standards, history, breakdowns)
- 8. Metal and gothic rock (values, standards, history, breakdowns)
- 9. Hip hop and graffiti (values, standards, history, breakdowns)
- 10. Football hooliganism (values, standards, history, breakdowns)
- 11. Application of knowledge in pedagogical work (social pathological phenomena, prevention, out-of-school activities
- ) 12. Final discussion of literature and films (possible viewing of selected film)
