- Course objectives
- The students will be acquainted with the most important Greek terms concerning public administration, military, and with information related to some neigbors of the Eastern Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire (nomads).
- Learning outcomes
- The student will:
- be able to read correctly an ancient Greek text;
- be able to understand it to such an extent that he/she can use it as starting point for his/her scholarly work;
- is capable of quoting an ancient Greek text properly. - Syllabus
- Reading and interpretation of classical Greek sources (a subject to change, e. g. Herodotus, Thucydides, Pseudo-Aristotle, Claudius Ptolemaeus, Strabo, Priscus of Panium).
- Reading and interpretation of Constantine Porphyrogenitus.
- Reading and interpretation of John Skylitzes.
