Course objectives
The course focuses on the Ludwig van Beethoven's creative developments during his first creative period between his arrival in Vienna in 1792 and his first creative crisis in 1802. The course is intended for master degree students of musicology. An advanced mastering of analytical methods is a prerequisite.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student will be able:
- to describe the main compositional issues involved in the Beethoven's creative output of the period concerned;
- to identify the social and artistic context of the Beethoven's creative output;
- to analyse the music works of the late 18th century using various analytical approaches.
