Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with main knowledge mainly in the General psychology and Developmental psychology. More concretelly, the students learn about main definitions of psychological notions and mental processes, theories of personality, principles and phasis of the mental development, basics of Health psychology and Psychopathology.The participants get the opportunity to develop both, own selfperception and selfcognition, and the perception of other people via discussions, tests, questionnaires, and psychological games.
Learning outcomes
Completing the course, students will be able to define, describe and clarify: - psychological terminology, - subject, structure and history of psychology and its relation to other sciences, - the basic characteristics of the human psyche, its biological and social determination, - cognitive processes, - the nature of human emotions and emotional intelligence, - the structure and dynamics of human personality, factors influencing personality development, - selfperception and selfcognition, selfimage etc. In the area of ​​developmental psychology, students will be able to describe and understand: - principles of mental development, - the phases of mental development - slected theories of mental development. Besides that, students get the basic knowledge about psychological publications, authors and researchers publishing in the area of psychology. They will be more skilled to use the psychological knowledge for the purpose of own personal development, stress reduction and communication with other people.
Syllabus
  • Psychological disciplines, basic psychological literature, historical milestones of psychology. Subject and aims of psychology, research methods of mental processes and assessment methods used in psychology.
  • Mental states and processes (cognitive, emotional and will).
  • Basic concepts in Psychology of personality, structure, dynamics - temperament, character, motivation. Selected personality theories (Freud, Adler, Jung, Murray, Horney, Fromm, Frankl ...).
  • Mechanisms of autoregulation. Will and decision making. Performance-enhancing human characteristics. Theory of intelligence.
  • Cognitive functions (perception, thinking).
  • Emotions - types, expression and regulation. The emotional intelligence. Selfimage and selfconcept.
  • Subject of ontogenetic psychology, characteristics of development, growth, maturation and learning. Developmental principles a determinants. Developmental theories (Vygotskij, Piaget, Kohlberg, Erikson etc.).
  • Basics of psychopathology. Disorders of cognitive functions and emotions. A personality disorder. The role of psychotherapy.
  • Stress and frustration. Psychology of health. Positive psychology. Stress management, vulnerability and resilience. Psychohygiene, coping processes. Flow effect.
  • Time perspective. Locus of control. Factors of life satisfaction.
